It has been almost a decade since my last visit to Thailand. During those years, the country had remained one of the world’s most visited destinations, but it had also made headlines for reasons that didn’t always reflect its true spirit. So, when the Tourism Authority of Thailand, together with the iconic Dusit Thani Hotels, invited me to rediscover the country, I was curious to see what had changed—and more importantly, what had remained timeless.
Armed with curiosity and an appetite for discovery, I boarded a Thai Airways flight for a four-night journey through Hua Hin and Bangkok. What followed was a refreshing reminder that Thailand continues to evolve while staying true to its greatest strengths—warm hospitality, exceptional value, world-class wellness and unforgettable culinary experiences.
Hua Hin: Hidden Coastal Gem of Thailand
Our journey began with a scenic drive to Hua Hin, a charming seaside town often recognised as one of Thailand’s premier wedding destinations for Indian travellers. While weddings have certainly put Hua Hin on the map, the town offers far more than beautiful beachfront venues.
Known for its laid-back atmosphere, wellness retreats and luxurious resorts, Hua Hin is a destination where life slows down. Better yet, Thailand continues to deliver incredible value for money. With five-star luxury often available for around USD 200 per night, travellers can enjoy world-class hospitality without stretching their budget.
We checked into the elegant Dusit Thani Hua Hin, where the tone for the journey was immediately set. If there was one recurring theme throughout this trip, it was this:

Our first cultural experience took us to the beautiful Mrigadayavan Palace.
Unlike the grand, imposing palaces often seen across Asia, this royal residence reflects simplicity and elegance. Built as a seaside retreat, it offers visitors a glimpse into the humble lifestyle of Thailand’s royalty.
The peaceful 90-minute walk through the palace grounds was made even more enjoyable by the absence of large crowds—a rarity at historical attractions today. It’s worth noting that parts of the palace are only open on selected days, so planning ahead is essential.
Painting Memories at Khomapastr
One of the most enjoyable experiences in Hua Hin was visiting Khomapastr, a traditional fabric painting workshop that has preserved this beautiful art form for over five decades.
Rather than simply watching artisans at work, visitors are invited to become artists themselves.
Choose from tote bags, T-shirts, pouches or other fabric items, select colourful stencils and paints and create your own personalised souvenir. Whether travelling with family, friends or children, this interactive workshop is both creative and memorable.
Thailand’s Unexpected Wine Country
One of the biggest surprises of the trip awaited us at Monsoon Valley Vineyard.
Few travellers associate Thailand with wine, yet this stunning estate nestled amidst rolling hills produces award-winning Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, sparkling wines and several other labels.
The experience extends far beyond wine tasting.
Guests can cycle through picturesque vineyards, enjoy thoughtfully curated tasting menus, design personalized wine labels and even interact with rescued elephants in an ethical conservation environment. Our home for the next two nights was the spectacular new Dusit Thani Bangkok—the flagship property of the brand that has been beautifully rebuilt after an extensive transformation.
The arrival itself is unforgettable.
Guests check in from the Sky Lobby on the 39th floor, where panoramic views overlook Lumpini Park, often referred to as Bangkok’s “Central Park.”

Each evening, we enjoyed authentic Thai massages, while one afternoon was dedicated to visiting one of the city’s renowned luxury spa chains.
From aromatic oils and herbal scrubs to highly trained therapists, every treatment reflected Thailand’s long-standing reputation as a global leader in wellness.

Equally unforgettable was the evening dinner cruise along the Chao Phraya River.
As Bangkok’s illuminated skyline reflected across the water, we passed luxury hotels, iconic landmarks and the magnificent Icon Siam. To make the evening even more magical, we were fortunate to witness a spectacular riverside light show that transformed the city into a celebration of colour and culture.
Whether you choose a simple sightseeing cruise or an elegant fine-dining experience, cruising the Chao Phraya is an essential Bangkok experience.
